Students observed percolation tanks, check dams, contour bunding, and afforestation, and engaged with farmers and village leaders who explained community-driven water governance, crop choices, and bans on open grazing.

In the second village, they explored decentralized water systems and the role of women’s self-help groups, supported by MGNREGA. The third village highlighted links between watershed development, organic farming, and soil health.

Through field walks, informal talks with local activists, and reflective discussions, students examined the social, ecological, and economic impacts of sustainable development—including its ties to social discipline, equity, and Catholic social teaching. The immersion emphasized experiential learning over formal training, deepening students’ commitment to environmental stewardship and rural solidarity.
